Two general approaches should be investigated. In the first approach, methods for genuine HDR compression are targeted. In the second approach, methods for progressive compression where the HDR information comes as a refinement of the low-dynamic-range data, so to support backward compatibility, are targeted. The working place will be the Transforms and Spectral Techniques Group of the Institute of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology (sp.cs.tut.fi/groups/trans). In the new model the former ten departments were merged to form five new faculties and former 33 institutes were rearranged to become 20 new departments. The Institute of Signal Processing became Department of Signal Processing (abbreviation SGN) in the Faculty of Computing and Electrical Engineering. Thus the Institute of Signal Processing and the Department of Information Technology do not exits anymore. New heads of units were nominated, too. Prof. Ari Visa is the new head of the Department of Signal Processing, Prof. Jaakko Astola is the vice head and adjunct prof. Alpo Värri is the deputy vice head of the institute.
