<title>MSc thesis position at the Department of Signal Processing</title>
   <link>http://www.cs.tut.fi/~HDR/openpositions.html</link>
<description>07.01.2008 (archived) The objective of this MSc thesis is to study and implement existing algorithms for HDR image compression as well as to develop novel ones. Two general approaches should be investigated. In the first approach, methods for genuine HDR compression are targeted. In the second approach, methods for progressive compression where the HDR information comes as a refinement of the low-dynamic-range data, so to support backward compatibility, are targeted.

The working place will be the Transforms and Spectral Techniques Group of the Institute of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology (sp.cs.tut.fi/groups/trans). You can get familiar with the recent research activities regarding HDR at the project web page: http://www.cs.tut.fi/~hdr/
The selected candidate will be employed as a part-time or full-time research assistant depending on the applicant availability, expertise and number of credits already collected. The employment period is 6 months during which the project should be finalized.

Applicant should have background in signal and image processing and excellent programming skills in Matlab. Good communication skills in English are also required.
Previous experience with compression techniques and processing of color images is an advantage.
