Different techniques for voice manipulation and conversion are studied in this task. The aim is to create algorithms for to converting a source speaker's voice to a target speaker's voice as transparently as possible, with only limited amount of speech samples from the target speaker. Source and target speakers may speak the same or different sentences, and use the same language or different languages. The results of the work are to be used in a high-end concatenative text-to-speech system.
Prospective candidates should have a stong background in signal processing (pattern recognition) and Matlab/C/C++ programming. Prior expertise on speech processing and text-to-speech systems is an advantage, but not mandatory. The candidates should have the ability to work independently and also in cooperation with other team members. Good communication skills in English are obligatory.
Audio search is about finding speech/music or other types of audio segments in a large database, that are similar to a certain template segment. The work includes the design and implementation of suitable feature extraction, pattern classification and search methods for the task. The results of the work can be used to search large multimedia databases (e.g., the ones stored in personal mobile devices).
Prospective candidate should have a stong background in signal processing (pattern recognition) and Matlab/C/C++ programming. Prior expertise on speech processing (speech recognition) and/or database handling is an advantage. The candidate should have the ability to work independently and also in cooperation with other team members. Good communication skills in English are obligatory.
The starting date is 1.1.2005 and the first contract will be for one year, renewable. Those who are interested are invited to send a CV (preferable in electronic format) to Prof. Gabbouj. For further information, please contact,
